A guide to live New York during the World Cup

The 2026 World Championships will pass from New York, although the stadium is not technically located in the city. New York-New Jersey matches will be played at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, which will be shown during the tournament by FIFA as New York New Jersey Stadium. The plant will host eight games, including the final of 19 July 2026: it is one of the reasons why many visitors will use New York as the base of the trip, even when the game will be on the other side of the Hudson.

For those arriving in the city in those days, the problem will not only be to buy a ticket or understand what time to go to the stadium. New York is a city that may seem very easy to cross until you have to do so with tight times, full media, higher costs than expected and a number of events spread between Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx and New Jersey. From this idea was born Your Essential Guide to FIFA 2026, a 32-page digital guide created by Kiara Di Paola, founder of New York City 4 All, authorized tourist guide and creator of content related to the city and with the support of Marta Galfetti who, among other things, also writes for New York City in his column Giro del Mondo in New York.

The guide is designed for those who will come to New York during the World Championships, but not just about the matches. Inside there are the schedule of meetings at MetLife Stadium, directions to reach it, tips on race days, fan zones, places to see matches, neighborhoods to visit and a selection of restaurants and places designed to avoid the most obvious routes of mass tourism. It is a practical guide that is used to orient itself before arriving, to understand what it is best to do and what instead risks to waste time or money.

The most useful point, at least for those who do not know New York, is that the guide is good for both those who come specially to see the World Cup, maybe with tickets already in hand, and who instead comes simply to taste the sports air that in those weeks will live in the city. On one side of the guide, in fact, there is the sporting event, with its logistics: transfers, times, security, things not to do in the match day. On the other hand there is the real city, the one that remains outside the stadium: neighborhood bar, vintage knit shops, nightlife after games, less automatic itineraries between Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and Bronx. And therefore, even those who do not have a ticket for a game will find us useful information to live the World Championship through the city.

New York City 4 All has been working since 2014 on tours, personalized experiences and services for Italian and international travellers in the United States. The world guide is a kind of natural extension of that work: it does not replace the official information of FIFA or the transports, but puts them in a more readable story for those who will have to move in a very busy city, in a period in which it will be even easier to make mistakes in times, areas and priorities. It costs 8.50 euros (9.90 dollars) and is available as an immediate digital download.
