The Amtrak train to celebrate America 250

New York will also see a part of the celebrations for the 250 years of the United States. Amtrak presented the Freedom 250 Acela, a train decorated with a red, white and blue livery designed to accompany the national program of initiatives related to July 4, 2026, anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The train will travel on the Northeast Corridor, the railway line that connects Washington, Philadelphia, New York and Boston, and will also pass by Penn Station and Moynihan Train Hall in New York.

The first trip departed Thursday, May 7 from Washington Union Station and arrived at 30th Street Station in Philadelphia. On board was the secretary to the Transports Sean Duffy, along with a group of fourth and fifth grade students headed to visit some places related to the history of American independence, including the Liberty Bell. Philadelphia’s choice is not random: it is the city in which, in 1776, the Declaration of Independence was adopted.

Beyond the celebratory aspect, Freedom 250 is also one of Amtrak’s new Acela trains, designed to upgrade high-speed service on the East coast. The new convoys reach up to 160 miles per hour, have Wi-Fi 5G, more accessible power outlets, individual lights and a renewed catering service. Amtrak started the introduction of the new Acela after years of waiting, with the aim of increasing the available places and improving one of the most used railway routes in the country.

The project will not be limited to this train. In the coming months Amtrak will apply graphics related to America250, Freedom250 and DOT250 on other twenty convoys in different parts of the United States. The company also launched a series of promotional itineraries, called the Stars and Stripes Collection, built around railway trips linked to history, culture and American imagination, from the path of Founding Fathers to that between Hollywood and Broadway.
