Osteria Figa di Rosario Procino opens to Union Square and New York immediately

Some openings in New York don’t go unnoticed, they’re the ones where you enter the premises and you immediately realize the place has something. This is what happened last night from Osteria Figa, at 15 East 12th Street, a stone’s throw from Union Square, where Neapolitan entrepreneur Rosario Procino inaugurated his new tavern. Full room, right energy, that typically downtown blend made of Italians, New Yorkers, friends, curious and people who want to understand if a new address of the city was born.

The project comes from a shared bet. Procino decided to embark on this new adventure together with a small group of friends and investors who believed in the idea from the beginning: Alessio Rossetti and Giuseppe Di Martino, from the brand Devozione, Pasquale Montesano di Colomba Bakery, Giovanni Iovine, a reference figure in the management of one of the historical outposts of Italian catering in Manhattan as Il Gattopardo, and Matteo Rignanese, active in the real estate sector between Italy and the United States. A heterogeneous group, which combines gastronomic entrepreneurship, experience in catering and real estate, and who chose to focus on this new chapter of the Italian scene in New York.

The place has exactly the vibe that today works in New York: elegant but without rigidity, warm, alive. A place where the tables fill quickly, the conversations stretch and the evening takes its pace. Procino, who over the years has built some of the most recognizable Italian projects in the city, this time seems to have focused on something very simple – but not for this easy: to create a place where people want to return.

After the opening night, the feeling is that Union Square has just found a new address. And in New York, when it happens, the voice turns fast.
