From Monday, October 12, in Queens, there is a road dedicated to Spider-Man. The new Spider-Man Way sign was inaugurated at the intersection of Ingram Street and Ascan Avenue, in the Forest Hills district, just a few steps from Ingram Street, the address that in comics is referred to as Peter Parker’s home, the secret identity of the Marvel superhero.
The connection between Spider-Man and Queens dates back to the character’s birth, created in 1962 by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Unlike many other superheroes of the time, Peter Parker was a teenager who lived with the uncles Ben and May, attended the school and had to face family and economic problems. Forest Hills was the neighborhood where he lived, while the precise address of his home was revealed only in 1989.
The house really exists. It is a two-storey building on 20 Ingram Street, which has become a destination for comic enthusiasts over the years. The owner, Jack Shi, told ABC7 New York to welcome visitors arriving to photograph the house associated with Peter Parker.
The new denomination was approved by the City Council through local law 125 of 2026, which assigned commemorative names to 103 streets and public places in the city. This is a co-naming: Ingram Street retains its official name, to which is added the one dedicated to Spider-Man.
The ceremony was attended by municipal councilwoman Lynn Schulman, promoter of the measure, state congressman Sam Berger and several representatives of local institutions. Nick Lowe, editor of Spider-Man comics, and Mark Ditko, Steve Ditko’s nephew. Numerous children attended the opening wearing the superhero costume, taking advantage of the closure of the schools for Columbus Day.
As told by QNS, Berger recalled that Peter Parker is not a billionaire or an extraterrestrial, but a Queens boy struggling with homework, bills and family problems. It is precisely this characteristic, according to the MP, to have made the character recognizable for generations of readers.
